Definitely. I, too, was confused the first time it happened.

For awards like Thermalist, I'm of the opinion that the computation should also account for production. Then stuff like this would happen a lot less frequently as, normally, when spending heat and falling below another player's current heat resources, I will probably still be leading in Thermalist after production.

The computation has to be an accurate reflection of the situation right now.If it anticipated future production,players would get confused and would double-count ! The best way to improve understanding of what's going on might be to detail the hidden reasons for points changes in the commentary. Asin,X loses first place in the thermalist award and Y gains first place.

The OP in this thread did not post this as a bug, correct.

Many people, however, do post this as bug in the bug forum.

But, this component of live scoring can be confusing if people do not realize the award points (which are not actually scored until after the final production) will fluctuate during the game as the metal and heat resources are spent and produced.

This is not one of the examples I included when referring to the silly bug reports. This is not an issue of failing to read the rules or the in-game log.

Also, further credit the OP for, as you noted, asking the forum here rather than immediately posting it as a bug. That is my first step if I think I may have encountered a bug, in a game I am somewhat new to. I ask the forum, and if experienced players confirm it as a bug, then I post it in the bug forum.

Thanks to all for the reply and now I know why while playing it here online, I have played this game many times table top and know most of the rules. I did so a search and I wasnt able to find any topics in this forum about it, maybe it was the way I seached it.
I will add one other question about the online version of the game here with awards, also with the milestones are they not awarded at the end of the game ? Why are they calculated during the game if it is and end of game award when you play table top ? When I play I am used to doing those at the end of the game and I allow for myself points if I have achieved that goal-award-milestone etc

Awards are counted at the end of the game in table top, because the TR track serves as the base for the total score, and score sources other than TR do not count as revenue. On BGA, there's no physical limitation to display both TR and the live score, if live scoring is active

As Cheval_Raye noted -

No points are actually scored until the end of the game, when the score is tallied.

But if "real-time scoring is enabled, the interface will show each player's accumulated points, which will include all 6 categories, including milestones. Those won't change though, since they are a fixed 5 points for whomever claimed them.

The only part that causes confusion is the awards, because spending Heat or metals can temporarily change who is "winning" that award (even if a player clearly has enough production to guarantee winning the award after the final production - the real-time scoring calculates the awards based on resources currently held, not those which will eventually be produced right before the final greenery conversion.

The real answer to the OP is, "the problem is you have enabled live scoring which is an evil thing which spoils a lot of the drama of this wonderful game"

Unless you play real time, there is no point in playing WITHOUT live scoring as you can always calculate the score at any time. You could do so even in real time games if the opponent takes too long.
