Be aware that games get closed unexpectedly after 40 days

Post by jonathanmcc »

This isn't a rant - I'll do that elsewhere :).

This is for anyone who likes to play friendly, turn-based over a long period of time.
You need to be aware that the game might get abandoned by the system.

This is what happened to the turn-based game I was play with my son.
We started the game on 1/March/25 and we dip in and out with turns - mainly due to job commitments.

Our game was 'abandoned' by the system unexpectedly last week as it was judged to have no activity for 40 days.

Reasonable, you might think except for two things:
1) no warning was given beforehand - in fact I had received the daily email status that day, stating it was my turn and there was no time limit for it.
2) The last activity was 24 days ago. However, it looks like it only considers completed turns as activity.

It appears it was 40 days since the last full turn was completed, so it abandoned the game.
So in effect, I could have done my airstrike that morning, and the game would still have been abandoned.

I am currently liaising with support to see if they can resurrect it - they are saying no.

You should be able to save the game via the menu at the bottom. Then, you could load it into a new table and pick up from where you left off. However, I’m not sure if that’s only for single player tables.

Thanks. I wish I had known that.
I have saved the other 'long' game we are playing.

Restoring a Saved Game is only for Single player games, IF you share the computer you could take turns doing turns on a single player log in.
The Resources in BGA do have a "hard Limit" on games as there are times that they get "abandoned" without either player conceding, etc.
The completed turn is as you say a completed turn, in USE that is the phase of a turn completed for one faction (sa far as I can tell on where the "flag" for that is set. So I would advise if playing such a game to commit to completing a Faction's Phase (especially operations phases) in a 10-14 day time limit otherwise this may happen again. Will happen on a "timed game" as well - I've seen it happen.

Sorry about your lost game but there isn't anyway to restore it. Lunalol programmed this game on a pure voluntary basis and we are all Very grateful that he did so.
