Improvements for faster game sessions

Post by ViktorKM »

Here are some things I would love to see in order to keep the games shorter and more snappy!

1. A variant where everyone choose and roll their dice simulataniesly, nut then perform the movemenet in normal order of position, this will shorten the game round ALOT!

2. All the collision dices are rolled at the same time, even if you have multiple dice due to be close to multiple cars.

3. Engine check dice roll to be rolled at the same time. This will shorten the game rounds.

Amazing modd of this fantastic game!

I second this request! Also, the qualifying can happen simultaneously, there's no (obvious) reason why this needs to be one after the other.

Are you serious? Point number 1 is absurd!!! How can I decide without knowing position of my opponents?
Points 2 and 3 are irrelevant, we are talking about few seconds

Well, it works for most other racing game (heat to mention just one) also, if you think about it, its even more "realistic" as everything happens at the same time on the race track, and at high speed.

But no matter what is realistic or not. I would like this variant anyway. And that is the point, add it as a variant so we can choose to play or not to play with it.

Aslo point 2 and 3 are not irrelevant, there are ALOT of turns in this game, and every second counts, and adds up in the end. I can asure you it will help alot.

When we play this irl, everyone have their own set of dice and we play with all rolls simultaneously, it saves ALOT of time.

Why not as a variant, but it's really not the same game, and it can become very tricky...

It would be great if you could pre-select a dice which you will choose anyway. If it makes it faster? I dont know... Because you still have to choose a position after the dice rolled.

That not some sort of video game...

The rules of the board game has been written like this. Remember that the author and the publisher give their agreement to put the game on BGA.

So no, the developer wont add a variant thaht does not exists in reality.

I dont know the need to have faster game sessions...
You know if you play Ark Nove, you will play for quite a time.
Well the same for formula D, especially with a lot of different players involved.

Seems to me that it's an amazing way to generate AP. I can't speak for everyone else, but if this suggestion would ever be applied, I would lose a lot more time considering the rolls of everybody else that is behind me in order to determine what position would be better for me to go to, instead of just choosing the best position based solely on my roll.
ViktorKM wrote: 03 January 2026, 15:00 2. All the collision dices are rolled at the same time, even if you have multiple dice due to be close to multiple cars.
It exists the way it is because the car that caused the collision takes automatic damage based on the possible destruction of other cars involved. Also, all the rolls are performed sequentially. It's probably a lot of work for saving seconds off a game that usually takes hours with the amount of cars that would generate those consecutive collision rolls.
ViktorKM wrote: 03 January 2026, 15:00 3. Engine check dice roll to be rolled at the same time. This will shorten the game rounds.
Same as above... Rolls are made in sequence. It's probably a lot of work for saving seconds. Engine checks only happen when someone rolls a 20 or 30, which is even less frequent than the collisions.

Also, as someone pointed, the developer does not have the freedom to apply every change he sees fit. The game is not his property. He has to check with the I.P. owner any change that he might want to apply, even for quality of life improvements, if it changes the rules of the game.

Once I opened a ticket to ask why in 3 lap races you are given the option to make a technical pit stop, even if you don't have any repair points left. His answers was, and I quote: "That was the original implementation, but the game designers specifically requested that technical pit stops be offered (when enabled) even when a player has 0 Repair WPs - to give them the option of not moving out this turn. That's not a strategy that's ever appealed to me personally, but it's intentional and by design."

Heat is a different game with a very different premise. It's based on the core rule that all movements in a round are done in the same timeframe. That's why everybody chooses their gear simultaneously, so nobody has the advantage of knowing other people's choices. Also, that's why in Heat you can "pass through" other cars that moved "before" you, since you have an empty space to stop ahead.

I disagree with most of what you say.

But i also see you seem to play turn based and I only play Real Time games.

So I guess we are coming from two very different views on how to enjoy this game.

When I play this on the table, I enjoy it as a real time fast game where you are not allowed to redo your moves, you cant interupt your movement and you need to roll the dice as soon as the last player stoped moving his car. To simulate the highspeed and split second decissions of racing.

You seem to enjoy this game as one who can calculate evert possible outcome a few turns down the track and having a full day to do so.

Nothing wrong with that.

Not just how I enjoy my high speed racing games.
