Castle of Burgundy - Option without yellow tile 6

Post by Jujjju222 »

Hi, the subject may have been allready aborded, but BGA could offer option "without Yellow tile 6" ?

Seem to be the only unbalance of the game, offering possibility to remove it for game or tournament, if both players are ok, could be great in my opinion.

Thanks :)

That's the reason, why people play 1st edition of the game. Do the same.

Came by the game page just to check if there was finally an option to remove tile #6. There's not.

But the developer of the BGA implementation, fa-fr, has said in the past that Alea/Stefan Feld would need to approve the change for it to become an option on the site. (see https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=45974)

However, in the newest edition of the game they completely nerfed tile #6, so that it can only take beige (city) tiles. To me this indicates that the designers/publishers recognized it was game-breaking, and made appropriate changes. BGA would still need their written approval to allow this option, but it seems like Stefan Feld is open to the idea.

The best option for now is to message you opponents before the game starts to see if they’ll agree to treat Yellow Tile #6 as if it’s the original (can buy tiles from any depot, but still requiring 2 coins). That way, you get the benefits of the good changes made to Yellow Tiles #15 (3 8==~ 2 points for every different color good sold) and #26 (2 8==~ 3 points for every bonus tile).

In a four player game every yellow tile appears, so if one is missing, that means there will be an empty yellow spot on the last phase; that would also be unfair.

There is also a new version of this rule: it is only allowed to use workers to buy buildings, not other tiles.

As was mentioned in a previous post the simplest option today is to play with 1st edition instead (and is why arena is almost always played like that).

For those that prefer the newer tile-themes you can change that separately from the rules edition for yourself.

Main downside to 1st edition is that you don't get the balance changes to tile #15 (3 points for each different sold good is too strong and was nerfed to 2) and tile #26 (2 points for each bonus tile is too weak and was buffed to 3) but neither is as breaking as tile #6
