if the bid is 2-3-2 and you perceive your hand as a 1 bid....you should be closing it out as a 5 team bid at the minimum.

in truth. if the dealer bids 2 my p bids 3 and the 3rd guy bids 2...

i am pretty much bidding 4 blindly.

Agreed.

My point was that a truly terrible hand might not be worth playing in a 5-5 or a 5-6. If the house rule were in place, it might be better to just make it a 5 bid intentionally to skip the hand.

Also true. That's a far worse problem that any of the other ones mentioned.

Isn't the correct answer to not consider others bids, but to properly bid your own hand?

I'd say considering other bids is required for property bidding your own hand.
