It would be good for BGA to show how long a tournament is estimated to take, so people know what they sign up for, but other than that, why is it your problem if people want to play a tournament that lasts years?

A far bigger problem is all the Heat tournaments where the duration is set so unrealistically low that the majority of the matches end up timing out, and there is no way to change the duration once the tournament has started, so the useless races that will never finish just go on and on and on. Now THAT is ridiculous.

It is good that there is an estimation, but then it should be a correct one. The new screen lay out is giving a very incorrect picture.

My problem with tournaments that would last for like 10 years is that it is ridicolous. Abnormal that it is even a possibility to set something up like that.
My other problem is that there is no tought about it. It is just putting settings to the max and then saying that it is a fine job for the community that someone is making tournaments over here. If it were tournaments with normal settings, i would be happy about this, but these setting, also for all the other games, are nonsense in my opinion without any tought.

So my problem with all these kind of tournaments is that people are not showing up anymore. Because maybe they misread the settings (yes their fault), maybe playing much less on BGA after two years and are not committed anymore etc. And then the tournament is dragging even more on and taking the max amount of time.
So yes, a more normal setting would not cause that problem.

Your last point, making tournaments with to low time, absolutely agree with that. Then again, making tournaments with to low time settings, you also dont understand then what are normal settings for the current game and for a tournament of that game.

As far as i see it,there are always enough people who are commited to certain games, that are making tournaments for those games.
Then it is unneccesary that people, who are far less commited to a game and do not understand what normal settings are for a tournament, make those tournaments in my opinion.
Leave it to the people who are playing that game and understand it.

So in other words, you have no argument aimed at convincing other people, it's just how you feel about it.

The organizer can easily resolve the first issue by putting a warning about how long the tournament is supposed to last. For the second point, I'm not sure why it is an issue if people drop out of the tournament, as long as they don't do that by quitting a current game.

Yes, I agree, but you're assuming those tournaments would only be made by people who don't know about the game, which is a very baseless assumption.

Probably mostly yes, my feeling but that is always in a forum if i am correct :),
But do you want to join a 40 games, 10 years tournament where if you are unlucky being matched with someone who is not logging in on BGA anymore and did not quit the full tournament? Then you have games where you are in for 90 days without any move. That is what happening in these kinds of tournaments.
And then the simple answer is, people can quit of they don want to play this tournament anymore. But if the setup is normal, no one quits.

I am 100% sure that the organiser of this tournaments is not aware at all how long these setups are as a play time for the tournament. For me putting all the settings to the max is already telling me that. And the new calculation of the duration of the new tournament screen is not making sense at all at the moment. If that was calculating in a correct way, then it was correctly visible now in the new menu.
The problem is in the fact also that people are not there anymore and don quit the tournament, but not available at all anymore.
But in my opinion again, if tournaments have normal setups, people don't quit or need to quit.

What i meant was that i think that people who play the game more often, can understand better how to make a good tournament for that specific game.

You are not reading his responses closely. He is fully aware and simply doesn't care because in his opinion it's always the fault of the person who joined the tournament. He has responded in this thread and said similar things in other threads.

Right, but then again anyone may find it cool to organize a 10 years tournament of a game they like. The concept is so out there that at this point this doesn’t really have anything to do with understanding a game, it’s just a different tournament preference than you.

If I didn't understand how long the set-up of 5-player championship (4 races) games of Heat with 90-day time-limits are, then I would probably call it "really fast games of Heat", not "the long slow game". As you appear to not like the settings of the tournament, I recommend you don't sign-up to it, and let those who do want to play such a tournament do so. You don't have to sign-up to every Heat tournament you see.

The problem is not, people leaving a tournament the "proper" way, by clicking the Withdraw button and completing the current game. The problem (in Swiss tournaments, and especially for multiplayer games) is when people leave BGA entirely but are repeatedly placed at new tables in each new round of the Swiss tournament.

See this thread from 2024 and this thread from 2025 for some good discussion about what solution is better: should the tournament organizer have power to eliminate players (under certain conditions), or should players be removed automatically (and if so, under what conditions).

I need to agree with you there then. That he indeed is calling it the long slow tournaments. So he knows it is taking long, but i dont think he will know this 10 years :).

Then i am glad there is no possibilty for an eternity called tournament ;)

Yes, this. You prashe it probably better than what i also meant.

People are not quitting in the "proper" way. And then people are stuck in a swiss tournament with offline people for example.
And then the people who are still there, can't play anymore or less games. And the answer that they also can quit if they dont want to play anymore is then not the right answer.

But it all started with bad tournament setup in my opinion.
