Scythe UI Update

Post by Tisaac »

Hello players,

As you may have noticed, a new version was deployed that changes quite some parts of the UI.
These changes follow a discussion with BGA toward the release of the game, and as such some feedbacks were made regarding guidelines that the game has to follow. The main mandatory changes are :
- no more styling on the title bar, so the "red carpet" has been replaced with plain old white
- no extended right side to fit player mat, so you instead have two options now : a floating container in the bottom-left (default on destkop), or just below the boards (default on mobile)
- no "info panel" in the right column => it was moved on the map directly, and the settings icons has to go away, you can find the settings by clicking first on the hamburger menu in the top right
- no 'completely hidden" pieces of the game : you had to click on a player panel to see the details of the mech powers and their mat, they are now displayed under the board as well, with quick access buttons on the left

Some other (optional) changes were made :
- move together the three tracks and make them floating to always have an eye on them if you want to (you can collapse them)
- the structure bonus was also moved for improved visibility
- I've changed the lib to interact with the map : the new one should work a bit better and also offer some controls on the top right of the map. Please be aware that the mouse wheel will no longer zoom by default, you will need to hold the Shift key if you want to zoom with your mouse. This was done to avoid confusion with scrolling (sometimes being stuck on the map with no way to scroll up or down)
- on mobile, the map interactions should be a bit smoother since low-res assets are used. The map automatically scale to your screen width and disable all controls and take instead the whole height needed. You can zoom using the built-in browser zoom if needed.
- factions counters are now duplicated for easier lookout : you can find them on the player panels but also on the faction mats below the board

Some bugs were fixed (list to be updated) :
- during auction, you coudlnt check the details of the factions once you made a bet
- 127210 : "Show combat dial" is not working
- 179022 : Tie breaker not followed
- 131377 : End of game scoring showed incorrect popularity
- 139560 : Cannot decline combat cards after losing a combat
- 133748 : As Polania, the game did not let me leave resources on lake with my character
- 150990 : You can overpay costs by clicking too fast
- 159466 : End game scoring showed blank after game
- 142208 : Could still validate an objective after 6th star got placed
- 133143 : Pop up translation when visiting factory or triggering encounter not implemented in French
- 183880 : KenSamuel forces enemy workers to retreat and lost
- adding warning messages when clicking on pass of a doable action

Please feel free to give any feedback, either here or through the bugs/suggestion system.

Have fun playing !

The new UI is absolute GARBAGE. It was 100% better before these changes.

To elaborate:
- All of my stuff is split up - resources in the upper right, player action board in the lower left. Very annoying.
- I can't use a scroll wheel to zoom in & out. This is AWFUL.
- On a phone, all this is super crowded and everything is in the way. It's almost unplayable on a phone screen.

I'm completely with Wog here - on desktop, I can't see part of my board as it's covered by the actions menu, and zooming is impossible - what have you done? :') It was actually not too bad beforehand.....

Interesting UI update. On mobile it seems like the power track is cut off at 14ish power. You can still find the power info listed in the players boards

Thank you for taking some action on updating this game - it felt like nobody cared at all about this game and it'd never get out of Beta. Again, thank you.

Hopefully users providing feedback are a little more polite in future.

I like the updates. Definitely had to work to navigate the UI before. Feels more intuitive now. Appreciate the work you've done.
Thanks..

I think it's a move in the right direction and I feel fortunate that my zooming concerns were addressed so quickly (coincidence, I know). On that point, I think folks have missed this bit:
Please be aware that the mouse wheel will no longer zoom by default, you will need to hold the Shift key if you want to zoom with your mouse. This was done to avoid confusion with scrolling (sometimes being stuck on the map with no way to scroll up or down)

Some points that came to me:
  • I don't know if it's possible to make the floating board transparent so it's easer to see the map behind it and make it opaque when the mouse it hovering over it. (Not sure how to make it work on a touch device--sorry, I don't use touch devices)
  • Having a button to toggle floating and "docking" the player board right on it would be useful, as I can see wanting to change it depending on what I am doing. Hiding in the hambuger menu and behind another button means a lot of clicks!
I don't know if those things are possible, but I think they'd be nice QoL things to have.

Thanks for your efforts!

Sorry, but this "upgrade" is really bad.

I'm playing on an ultra-wide monitor and I still can't adjust the UI to see everything I need.

The zoom function is buggy and I can't zoom out without first locking and unlocking the view.

If I choose to show my pad as floating and click on my faction to see a larger version of the pads, and then close it, my floating tab is empty. The only way to fix this is to delete it and re-show it through the settings.

The floating tab doesn't show the upgrade options at the bottom so I don't know what I can upgrade.

I tested it again and I sometimes get the problem that the actions menu blocks the view of the bottom left part of the map - and even zooming (I use the +/- widget in the zoom/view lock control panel), it is kinda stuck there, and I need to zoom out completely, press the "lock/unlock" icons a few times, and eventually I can move the map so that I can see the units in the bottom left part. I think it's perhaps a small bug, slowly I get used to the new layout ;)

The new ui is a f...ing disgrace, worse than the previous one in basically every aspect. I truly don't understand how you test it and say: ok, let's roll it out.

Let's talk about the key points:
1) replace red with white -> idiotic, that tone of red is even in the interior of the legendary box and it's way better looking than white.
2) remove the player mat on the right-> maybe the worst of all the changes: having it floating takes an enormous space and hiding it is senseless; moreover you don't have it near your resources count, which is foolish.
3) give the building bonus and various tracks all that space on the right is silly.

I'll stop playing the game until it will be improved or restored to the original layout and i don't think i'll be the only one; i started a 3P game earlier and after 5 minutes we all agree to abort it because of the new interface.
