Or, is it just me, as I don't see any other bugs or posts regarding this on the forum?

In general cube lock works fine, especially if you cannot move your checkers and you want to skip the doubling decision each turn. As soon as you can move again the cube is automatically unlocked - which is a good feature because otherwise you might miss the chance of doubling.

I want the choice to have it locked. Especially in a turn-based game. If I'm on the bar and my oppponent has me completely blocked in his home board, I don't want to get an alert to take my "turn" which is literally saying no, I do not want to make this insane decision of doubling.

Obviously, in general play the onus is on the player to unlock when they think they have a good outcome (this is what I do in real-time)

Are you saying that in turn based games, the cube lock persists? Because, to use another example, in cases of browser crashes, it does not. Also very frequent turn-based (many turns a day) you're not gonna have the browser open all the time. So it makes the feature useless unless you're in real-time and nothing happens to the site, or your device.

Yes, for me the cube lock works in turn based games in such a case. I can lock the cube and my opponent can make as many moves as it needs till I can move again. I am not asked if I want to double.

And this is independent of my browser status.

Wow, I didn't expect that. I honestly don't know what else to try in troubleshooting. Thanks for letting me know

I am not still not sure if we are not talking about the same game behaviour but interpret it differently.

Please try the following:
In a turn based game make your move and (in a situation where it does not hurt you) click on the doubling cube such that it is greyed out. Then close your browser tab and open the game only when your opponent has made his move and you are asked for your move.

*) I predict that you are not asked if you want to double (because you greyed out the doubling cube) and you already see your dice and you can directly move your checkers. The doubling cube is active again since you will change the game situation with your move and you want to reconsider if you want the doubling cube locked.

*) I predict that if your opponent did hit you and you could not re-enter from the bar then your opponent will make as many moves as it takes you to re-enter your checker(s) from the bar. If you open the browser tab and open the game when it is your turn to move, you are again not asked if you want to double but you are directly asked for your next move. The doubling cube is active again.

Please note that locking the doubling cube is a big decision which should only be made if all 36 possible rolls for your opponent and every possibly extremely stupid and mistaken checker play by your opponent does not allow you to double next move. As every backgammon book tells you "Every move is a cube decision" - thus it is a very good feature (in my opinion, you might disagree) that the cube lock only persists till you can change the position by moving your own checkers. The cube lock as it is implemented at the moment works perfectly in the situation that you are on the bar and cannot move your checkers.

Please note, furthermore, that re-opening the game when it is not your move may unlock the locked cube. This may be unwanted for you but there is no reason to open a Backgammon game that you are playing when it is not your own move. If you do it nevertheless, you may revise your decision of locking the cube and if you are still wanting a locked cube you have to lock it again.

But that's what I'm saying, that's what I want but it doesn't work. The cube doesn't persist at all.

I tried in a game with a friend (turn-based), and on my turn it was unlocked again. It doesn't matter whether I've opened the table on my turn or not, unlocked either way. Are you the developer?

He is not the developer (neither am I), but I also am having trouble figuring out what you are saying. My cube works exactly as Euklid described it above.

Can you answer 1 question. If you lock the cube, then leave the game, when you come back when it's your next turn, have the dice been rolled for you already? If so, the cube lock is working.

Sorry I'm not sure how to make it clearer 😕 in the situation you described, no the dice is not rolled. The cube is unlocked again, and I have to choose whether to double or roll. Hence why I'm absolutely certain this is a bug, and I've reported it as is the process, and just hoping anyone else that does have the same problem sees the post and votes. However if I'm actually the only one experiencing this, I'd kinda hope there's a way to figure that out as well.

I will invite you to a 3-point match. Then we can try it out how it looks for me vs. for you... Please join, if you like.
