Attention Terraforming Mars players looking for improvements

Post by FrankJones »

Greetings,

I spent some time yesterday organizing the suggestions in the [Terraforming Mars] bug/suggestion forum.

If you go to the bug/suggestion page and filter by "report type - suggestion", and the clock the header to sort by number of upvotes, you can see the most highly upvoted suggestions.

I recommend doing that, and upvote a couple of suggestions. Please do not upvote them all - that will not accomplish anything. We want to see which suggestions are more preferred relative to others.

In fact, I recommend DOWNVOTING suggestions you do not like. And pick one or two that you like the most, and upvote them. This will help see which suggestions are most popular.

Keep in mind:

1) House rules and variants are unlikely to be implemented because they require explicit permission from the Fryx family.
2) It is not feasible to implement every halfway decent suggestion. Players want Venus, Turmoil, promo cards, preludes 2, etc. This all takes a lot of time and effort.
3) Some suggestions are not feasible within the BGA framework.

Very nice! Thank you for doing the otherwise thankless job of maintaining and organizing all the bug reports in this great adaptation of a great game!

And for anybody who wants to jump straight to the TfM bugs, this link should work.

Is there any timeframe on them reverting the format of these mobile games back to what it was? This is still borderline unplayable for me personally.

Would this one be difficult to code ?

That's a BGA issue, not a Terraforming Mars issue. Other games have the same problem after BGA made a site-wide change some months ago.

Adding a large batch of new milestones and awards would be a large amount of work. And with only 10 upvotes, it seems to be low on the list of the collective TFM players' wishes.

I do not own that expansion - of the 70 awards and milestones, are any of them identical to the existing ones on the existing 5 maps?

Yes. They are mainly existing ones (several are changed like builder needing 7 not 8 tags), with some new included. Main reason for this expansion is that at the start of the game you randomly pick them despite of the map.

I think programming those milestones/awards themselves would not be such an issue. But the issue with is that there is no rule for "correct" randomizing. You should basically choose such milestones and awards which do not overlap. When you do it in OTB, you randomly pick something and if it overlaps, you take it away and put something else.So there would have to be set of rules and that would be pretty difficult to establish... Fryx didn't try to do it themselves and left it for players' common sense.

Correct. Some combinations of milestones/awards would make for a somewhat nonsensical game. It's already annoying enough when someone plays Ecology experts and claims a milestone on Generation 1. With randomization, there is at least one other that is similar and could possibly also be claimed on gen 1.
