I think we should have a WSBG drafting option- https://wsbgvegas.com/wp-content/upload ... G-MARS.pdf.

Basically it allows for drafting of crop and cards in the opening hand.

This would be a horrible idea for competitive play. You basically start the game knowing all but 1 card(which will also probably get shown soon as it is the best of 10) that the opponent has and vice versa. The main reward of keeping say 7+ cards and playing 2 in gen1 is having 5+ unknowns in hand, and then 1 unknown per gen + card draw. Also, how would it even work? Do preludes get shown before cards get drafted? Suppose they do, when does the first draft of 4 happen in comparison to card draft? Suppose they get shown later and you passed Kelp Farming because you see Mass Converter in a pack with 3 more science tags so it is a way bigger threat and you had to cut it, or rather keep it for your own science shenanigans. Then prelude drafting starts and you get Ecology Experts and you simply must take it with no targets for it, just so the opponent's winning chances don't skyrocket, while you only get 3 preludes to play, none of which are the best in packs of 4. Drafting everything completely changes the game and somehow turns it into even more slots on one hand, since you will depend on generation drafts way more than you do now, and on the other hand turns it into a more solved game since the opponent's hand is basically known since the start.

Absolutely agreed with dizi. It’s terrible for 2p competitive play. Looks bad for other formats too.

We have a family house rule that you can mulligan and draw 8 cards instead of 10 for this very reason.

After the game we just played, I might have changed my mind. I would like to mulligan this hand please:

https://boardgamearena.com/gamereview?table=884706043

I figured I had 3 choices:
1) Take MG and hope something developed.
2) Take Inventrix and hope something develops.
3) I thought about Deep Well heating and GHG factories, but I was confused because I've been reading that Deep Well heating sucks but that GHG factories is underrated.
4) I shouldn't have bothered keeping AMC, especially with people saying it's mediocre. Maybe if I can titanium mine in my starting hand or something like that.

This game just frustrates me a lot. The drafts weren't helpful, I wasn't getting anything helpful from business network, the gen 2 draft had EC, and then when a strong draft came it was Giant Ice, Optimal Aero (against Interplanetary cin), and Deimos Down.
I ended up with both Giant Ice And Deimos, and before I could play either one, Protected habitats showed up. Ugh.

Still ended up being a close game.

But I am starting to think the Mulligan ides isn't a bad one.

The other thematic card games I play: Wingspan, Earth, and I'm getting into Ark Nova now - if you don't have cards, you can use a "draw cards" action.

TFM is one of the few games I've played where playing cards is the main focus of the game but there is no default action to get more cards.

Any input on the above game would be greatly appreciated. I really had no idea what to do.

Frank you can't play like this, this is Tharsis you have no business buying and playing cards like biz committee, you had no jov mults nor tit prod and you are not Saturn so AMC is just a dead card. He is IC, played space mirror so you draft water splitting plant over rad chem on Tharsis? And you bought it while you had zero active energy after seeing both ore AND steel works from the draft? You are just asking to be rolled over here.

I would have bought breathing filter with Olympus in hand while it's Tharsis with scientist award waiting for me, there is no heat prod anywhere you can drag it out, back door thermolist is there with both quantum and mass. Earth cat is annoying but he is only 300, you are fine. Since you see olympus with Inventrix card draw I can't go MG here; take GHG Fac and speculate on power later, especially you have 3 cards coming.

The only thing that was going for you was the cash reserve and you blew it on sp ocean and playing horrendous cards like moss, you are inventrix why bother? There is already an ocean, you already met the requirement, if you really wants it just nuke zone two plants. But moss is horrendous and you have no NRA nor Insects nor any of the bio package while he has EARTH CAT. You were just straight up dead there after blowing through your cash.

Agreed.

I really don't know what I was thinking in that game. I seem to get flustered early and then just seemingly draft and play random cards.

Would Deep Well-heating into GHG factories be a bad idea? Too much cash investment when I could wait for a better use of the funds?

You started the game with Quantum and Mass, therefore any other power source should be avoided, as well as heat really. You want a very fast game if you get Mass online fast, or a long game if it would take some time. So all you gotta do is find the missing 2 tags to start getting -4 on space and 10 energy, while only buying combo cards, space cards(not Phobos) and good economy cards if all you find are those early(let's say stop seeing Acquired Company as good in gen5). With card draw and discounts and a lot of heat you are most likely gonna be in more control of when and how the game ends than the opponent, and you will also be playing points for cheaper quite soon, while the opponent will seek to end before they get outscaled, even with Earth Catapult, and global discounts mean nothing with no card draw and a need to use Standard Projects to force end while you still got the advantage. And what if you ignore all those weaker cards for energy and heat and it turns out Quantum can only be played gen7? Then the game is as lost as it would be with you playing those weak cards anyway, especially with the setup opponent had. Think of it like this; you each roll a die once and the higher number wins. You also get a re-roll chance. If you roll a 4 without knowing what the opponent rolled, you will not re-roll because math is easy, but knowing the opponent rolled a 5 you gotta re-roll and hope for a 6. Re-rolling into a 2 doesn't make you lose harder than keeping a 4. So buying weak cards while holding power cards is the equivalent of keeping a 4 while only buying best cards is rolling for a 6 which can easily end in rolling a 2.

Yeah basically, I would rather striving hard for the win than keeping the 4, playing deep well, or playing stripmine unmi and losing for sure.
