In the game options in the "play now" view, one of them says "I am okay/prefer not to/never want to" etc play with "volunteer projects," and gives choices for 1, 2, 3 or 4 projects. I don't see this mentioned in the rules. Whatzzits means?

Re: "Volunteer Projects?"
They are in the rules. They add challenges to the game to make it harder.

Re: "Volunteer Projects?"
Are there plans to add these volunteer projects to more than just solo mode?
Re: "Volunteer Projects?"
There are no plans to deviate from the rulebook, no.
Re: "Volunteer Projects?"
I wouldn't consider it a deviation from the rulebook. The rulebook specifically states that Volunteer Projects can be used at any player count:
Volunteer Projects can be added to a game of Parks at any player count! Want to spice up a multi-player game? Give them a go!
Re: "Volunteer Projects?"
Good rules citation. Thank you for correcting me. The volunteer cards are explained in the solo portion of the rules, but do include the note you cited.
I just looked over the official suggestions to see if I had also erroneously closed one for the same reason. Nope. Turns out the suggestion was filed and left open for votes for five months.

After five months, it hadn't received even a single vote, so we closed it and continue to focus our limited time making other improvements and fixes across the games we volunteer to maintain.

Why did you respond in this way? The above posters weren’t rude, demanding, or anything of the sort. If what is written above is true then the game was developed wrong (a premium game that people pay for) and saying you’re going to neglect it because it didn’t get upvotes on a bug report that most likely no one saw is odd.Kayvon wrote: ↑29 June 2026, 18:01 Good rules citation. I also wondered about this. It’s also odd to have an option that appears when trying to find opponents automatically that only applies for solo mode considering if you’re playing by yourself you don’t need to search for opponents anyway lol
Re: "Volunteer Projects?"
I wasn't either? "Thank you for correcting me" is hardly rude. I owned up to a mistake and, beyond that, I went out to see if there was an official suggestion created.ChiefPointThief wrote: ↑12 September 2026, 20:32 Why did you respond in this way? Turns out there was and the suggestion was closed more than five months BEFORE I wrote that response. My response didn't turn down the suggestion; the suggestion had already been closed for about half a year. My response simple indicated why it had been closed. It wasn't rude. It was factual, explanatory, and even owning up to a mistake.
The rules citation above provides an optional variant that we didn't include when adapting the game.
I'm premium, too, just like you. I don't get money for people playing this premium game, but I do volunteer my time to maintain the game for free so everyone can enjoy it.
Right. I use the voting system to determine how to volunteer my free times across the three dozen games I help to maintain. If a suggestion will take me several hours to implement and isn't popular, I'll skip it. If it gets lots of votes or is simple for me to implement, I'll often add it.ChiefPointThief wrote: ↑12 September 2026, 20:32and saying you’re going to neglect it because it didn’t get upvotes
I'm not sure what I've done to stir up your ire. I'm just volunteering time, answering questions, and being friendly. Correct me here, but I think you may have misinterpreted my response as an immediate rejection of the idea, rather than an explanation of a suggestion that was filed a year prior and received no votes.
As a corrolary, if this is something that's important to you, perhaps you should volunteer time to maintain BGA games. Visit studio.boardgamearena.com. It's difficult, but rewarding (usually). OTOH, it's rude to demand other people do unpaid work for you that you're not willing to do yourself.

Re: "Volunteer Projects?"
I said "we" because I maintain all these games with my brother. I do the PHP side and he does javascript and UI, which I'm not good at. I really enjoy being able to connect with him through BGA. It's a great experience, even if we spend more time now volunteering than playing games.
I appreciate that you feel adamantly about this. I think I said everything I have to say in my last reply. I don't care to be drawn in to a back-and-forth debate, so I'll happily sit back and let you have the final word if you want it.
