I’ve seen people grind yellow cards and guild cards. They do still do some civilian but they mostly grind yellow cards in the early game, that gives them lots of coins and materials. Then in age III they play lots of guild cards, so this strategy depends on your opponents.
I tried it in one of my games a long time ago and it did work. But is it considered as a good strategy? It does yield the player lots of resources and coins
For a full yellow strategy you need to be careful about a couple of things, first of all you need gold, and depending on the player count you can rely on more or less cards, for example in 3p tavern and bazar are not an option, whilst in 5p you have 2 taverns and ludus as well. Next up you can't only rely on cards that give you gold, against smart opponent they could easily dry you out and without a way to get paid by neighbors you could find yourself discarding cards, always remember that brown and gray are a resource available also for your neighbors when you play them. Then you need to consider your own wonder, there are some who thrive with yellow strats while others struggle a lot, a classic example is ephesos vs rhodos, the first one can easily be played with 2 or less resource card (not including yellow which they are indeed resource card), whilst the second typically is very hunger for resources and committing to full yellow can cause you troubles and you'll be more pleased to have trading post pointed to you so you can build stuff more easily.
I personally think that heavy yellow strats are heavily overrated because they often need 2-3 key cards to work well like caravan and vineyard so going all in is very risky and they are also kinda bad for splashing reds, so overall in my experience I would consider playing some yellows if the draft tends towards that but generally it's just a risky strategy, like going all in with science or all in with blues.
