Just a question. Is it then possible for a game's code to see the premium status (and/or elo) of a player? If that's the case, that's one argument we lose against RNG conspirationists...
Since game code does not know premium status, the game code actually uses a dedicated API function BGA added. This function returns which factions a specified player ID is allowed to use.

Rolled dice in TI4 use a bga_rand call same as all other games are required to, and this is mentioned in an entry linked from the TI4 FAQ bug entry if you are curious.
In ralation this this I made a suggestion in the bugreport system here if anyone else would enjoy this, please upvote it:

This might have already been said but:

Coming to the conclusion that having some factions be premium is just making the game worse for premium players too.

Even if you are paying, it's not actually much fun playing as a premium player any more when you are always playing against the same factions.

Like every game just has Sol, Jol-Nar. There are endless combinations but as a premium player you are still getting an experience limited by an arbitrary decision to not let players choose. Personally I've gotten to the point where I need to havea chat before the game so we can al agree to pick something "fun" casue I want to experience the full game, not just the "introductary game" on repeat.

not even BGA could stop themselves from going the EA and Ubisoft route, imagine gatekeeping content pieces behind paywalls and making the game generally worse for everyone, I'll just wait another 10 years for the digital version or go back to TTS, this wasn't it

The fact the game is free is amazing. People could do with remembering that.

Thank you Devs/BGA for giving me and my friends the ability to play this turn based. It’s been excellent.

It has inspired me to go premium (when my next game starts ;) )

Well i had high hopes but the premium wall is....well...

For all the ppl who want to play Twilight Imperium 4th with PoK expansion i recommend checking out ***. Its almost perfect, just lacks a turn timmer. You have to check ppl stats ( if they finished some games and have fast turn response) before starting a game. But everything else works really good! No premium, almost all races implemented etc.

Yeah, fix this, BGA. The game should be all or nothing - no subscriber-specific components or actions.

While we're at it, don't change 7 Wonders to be 4 Wonders + 3 Premium Wonders, don't change Blood Rage so that only subscribers can draw Loki cards, and don't change Catan so that subscribers always get to choose their placement first.

Edit: Oh, and the cherry on top is that my non premium players had to inform me that they couldn't select from all factions. I either didn't see the warning or it was non-existent.

I'm pretty sure as the game gets developed, they might make the whole base game free and POK and TE premium.

Bsed on many many other BGA games I serilously doubt this. And IF it does get expansions it will probabaly be years...
