Is anyone willing to share tips on how to get better at this game ?

Post by _Magali_ »

Hello everybody!

I've been playing Super Mega Lucky Box for a while and I don't understand how to score more points...
And before anyone tells me "You can't really get better, the game is luck-based", please check the win rate of the players that have the most ELO. They have at least a 70% win rate while I have a measly 45%. There must be things you can do to have high scores somewhat constantly. I also see that these players are able to score ~70 points and I don't understand how.

So anyway, I've tried focusing on checking stars at the right moment, on having the most moons, on completing my cards quickly, on completing all my cards, on creating synergy between my cards, and on keeping my bolts for the end and yet I still find myself frustrated with my scores... I just don't understand...
I think there might be something I could do better during the last round because I see that I usually keep up with my opponents at the start of the game and then loose tremendously, but I don't see how I could do things differently.

Your help would be very appreciated !

Cheers !

So, I've gotten a lot better at the game and I wanted to share what I've learned.

1. Stars are the priority. Try getting and checking 3 stars for as many rounds as possible. If you see you'll only be able to check 2 stars, wait for the next round so you can check 3, even if that means not completing a card on the current round. You only lose 2 points per rounds (except for the first round of course), so not completing a card on round 2 is okay if you can check 3 stars in round 3.
If you're able to have 3 stars for each rounds (except the first), you'll likely won't even need any moons. It isn't easy to do, though, so read the rest of my advice.

2. In 1v1, moons are the second priority. See how many moons your opponent has and get cards that let you have more than him. You can leave some unchecked and look at the start of the last round if getting more is good for you. You can deny your opponent of 6 points and get them for yourself. In 1v1, that's a 12 point swing.

3. Here's how I mainly use thunderbolts : to get star(s) and to check the lasts numbers of the game. I'll try saving them otherwise, because the end of the game is very important.
I also sometimes try to check a 3 instead of a 4 or a 1 instead of a 9 so that I can easily choose a new card that has 1-2-3 and whatever else instead of having to hope for a card that has 4-5-6 and 7-8-9.

4. Completing the most cards is rarely a priority. Unless you see a way to complete 3-4 cards in the first two rounds, I'd advise to simply don't go with that strategy and focus on stars. Getting 3 stars gives you 9 points (more than completing a card in the last round!) and helps you completing a card at the same time. Two for one.

It think that's all. I'm no expert but applying these strategy really improved the way I played. The rest is luck, in my opinion. :)

Have fun!
