Win ratio

Post by DazaB »

I imagine this is me being thick, but why does BGA say I have 81% win rate when 1939/3466 is about 56%? Amd any idea what the +6 is?

3 466 (+6) Games • 1 939 Victories • 81% wins

the +6 means friendly games. Which usually (but not always) includes solo.

The win ratio on BGA makes little sense. Usually a lot off friendly mode games will cause the number to be highly inaccurate because it counts friendly games played in the denominator but not friendly wins in the numerator.

You do not have a lot of friendly games, so the weird stats are likely the result of BGA handling win ratios oddly for multiplayer games.

I just assume the win rate does not reflect your total games. But your most recent x number of games. While the number of games do show your total history.

Otherwise the win rate might not accurately reflect your current skill level.

For 2-player games with no results in parentheses, (meaning all games were rated and not friendly mode), the win ratio is "all time", not just recent games, I think?

I never thought otherwise, but now I'm not so sure.

The Formula
For each game you play with N players, the value assigned to the outcome is:
• For a Win: N × 50% (or N / 2 expressed as a multiplier)
• For a Loss / Non-win: 0%
• For a Tie: Counted as a half-win (divided evenly among tied players)
Your final win ratio is the average of these values across all games played.
Examples by Player Count
Number of Players (N) Win Value for a Victory
2 Players 100%
3 Players 150%
4 Players 200%
5 Players 250%

This cannot be, unless I am missing something, w/
[*]a 4 player game, and
[*]nearly all 2 wins, 2 losses per table,
[*]w/ the rare booted 3 wins (counted as halfs per your math) and 1 loss.

Let's look at some top players, and some other players:

[*]BabyBlueSedan: 4379 Games • 2803 Victories • 94% wins | Victory / Games: 64.0%
[*]yakko_: 1377 Games • 869 Victories • 93% wins | Victory / Games: 63.1%
[*]PaigeBueckers: 2305 (+3) Games • 1359 Victories • 86% wins | Victory / Games: 59.0%

[*]BrutL: 2977 Games • 1535 Victories • 74% wins | Victory / Games: 51.6%
[*]creuzy: 2382 Games • 1223 Victories • 74% wins | Victory / Games: 51.3%
[*]esteiro65: 4367 Games • 1921 Victories • 62% wins | Victory / Games: 44.0%
[*]Jaxanator: 964 Games • 363 Victories • 55% wins | Victory / Games: 31.7%

I graphed out the BGA % v the Victory / Games %, and it looks close to linear, but not quite.

Thoughts?

I think every time you win you beat 2 people so it doubles your wins, and when you lose it just counts as a single loss for you.

(2 * wins - losses) / total games played.

The math for the numbers you provided for me is coming out to ~92% which is lower than you show, but that could be where the games that end w one person quitting skew the numbers.

The count is such that 50% means you win the statistical expectation, that is 1/2 of 2-player games, 1/3 of 3-player games, 1/4 of 4-player games...
