I think this looks like a better idea than the previous way of doing things.
I have always thought that new players get a raw deal (particularly with the partnership games like Hanabi) where newer players will get a lot of red thumbs just for being, well, new players!
because of this I have often played with players with red thumbs only to find that they are, in fact, nice people.
I would rather play with someone who is nice but not so good than someone who is an expert but rude....
So personally I have always kept my own comments every time I play with a new player to me as a guide as to whether they are good players or have suspect temperaments.
this always seems like a better guide for me than any rating system.
