Abandonned parties

Post by 7decoeur »

Firstly, I apologise if this has been discussed before, I rarely venture into the forums and searching for threads relating to abandon gave many many pages to sift through.

Perhaps I may stand alone in this suggestion, however I would like to see a setting that disables the abandon functionality for Hanabi. Personally I don't agree with abandoning a party to protect ones ELO, I think it cheats the system you have devised - I feel if you are OK at the game then it's pretty easy to maintain a healthy level and just roll with the punches just like shares on a stock market.

On abandonment there are some that will not abandon just to protect ELO, others that could do so at the drop of a feather (or 5) and then everyone in between. If there was a setting that stated clearly from the start that you are prepared to abandon / won't abandon, then the two philosophical camps could easily avoid each other in a game and thus bypass the sticky situations that sometimes arise.

For players who need to leave the game unexpectedly for personal reasons, he/she could concede the game and take the hit for the team.

For teams who are disinterested to continue an "unwinnable" game, the game could be conceded easily with 3 consecutive bombs.

This would help with the situation of inflated elo.

I am just wondering what is the results of conceding in Hanabi.
Everyone loses ELO points or just the one that concedes.
Just thinking that some really interesting games are those unwinnable!!!

I totally agree. I get so frustrated with people that want to abandon the game after one misused clue or failed play.

It's a GAME, nothing more. There are several players who seem to think that if you can't read their mind, you can never possibly succeed in winning a game together. They will even red-thumb people who don't read minds.

There's even a couple players who say "ELO doesn't matter" while they sit there with their ridiculous high elo, and a million abandoned games. I just make a personal note that they are quitters and try to avoid them (I don't red-thumb anyone unless they are downright rude/mean, or playing kingmaker in a multi-player game).

I think this would be a wonderful feature. I'd rather play through than give up, any day!
