Translation of Race for the Galaxy into Spanish

Post by Volguus Zildrohar »

Hello all,

As suggested by Sourisdudesert, I'm opening this topic in order to coordinate the translation of Race for the Galaxy into Spanish. As I commented in a previous entry, there are several valid options to translate the terms in RFTG and there is no official translation to guide us so everything is up to us. It's normal that each translator has their own preferences so this thread is meant to avoid any bickering around growing one's TU account. I propose the following items to discuss:

1) Here you can find a list of the main terms we need to agree on. Feel free to add any term you miss and that may be problematic:

World
¿Planeta o mundo?

Windfall (world)
This is a hard one. Mundo abundante doesn't make much sense and de abundancia may have weird effects like Mundo de abundancia de tecnología alienígena

Production (world)
¿Productivo o de producción?

Explore - Develop - Settle - Trade - Consume - Production
¿Exploración, etc o Explorar, etc? That is, ¿verbo en infinitivo o sustantivo?

Good
¿Bien o producto?

Novelty (world, good)
Another dificult translation. My bets are on (planeta, producto) de innovación

Rare elements (world, good)

Gene (world, good)
¿Genético o de genes?

Alien (world, good)
¿Alien o alienígena?

(Unspecialized) Military / Military force
¿Poder o fuerza?

Uplift
Another hard translation. This term is extracted, according to the designer, from the novels of David Brin. Has anyone read them in Spanish?

2) Caps or not.
Guys we need to decide which terms are we going to use in caps and be consistent with that decision. Is it going to be 1 punto por cada desarrollo or Un punto por cada Desarrollo

3) Card names.
This is going to need lots of coordination due to the high number of cards. I'll try to make a proposal of names over which we can discuss.

I'd like to point out that I have found some spelling errors (accent marks, mostly), so please pay attention to the details!

Please post your opinions and feel free to add any issue you may have stumbled upon.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Wikipedia provides :) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uplift_Universe and Spanish translation http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_elevaci ... os_pupilos

So if it is ok for you guys, we translate 'X Uplift Race' as 'Raza Elevada de X'

World
Good
Novelty (world, good)
Rare elements (world, good)
¿Opiniones?
Gene (world, good)
Alien (world, good)
(Unspecialized) Military / Military force
2) Caps or not.

kalisto59 wrote: World

kalisto59 wrote: Novelty (world, good)

Perfecto
kalisto59 wrote: Rare elements (world, good)

Elementos escasos, perfecto.
kalisto59 wrote: Gene (world, good)

kalisto59 wrote: Alien (world, good)

Me parece buena opción
kalisto59 wrote: (Unspecialized) Military / Military force

kalisto59 wrote: 2) Caps or not.

Pero, ¿cómo traducimos por ejemplo la frase "Produce in an Alien windfall world"?

Producir en un Mundo de Abundancia Alienígena
Producir en un mundo de Abundancia Alienígena
Producir en un Mundo de abundancia Alienígena
Producir en un mundo de abundancia Alienígena
Producir en un Mundo de Abundancia alienígena
...

Hello guys,

I have found another issue: some names are too long to fit in the text boxes within the cards, so I'll be translating shorter versions for these ones (and we'll have to drop 'Alienígena' and use 'Alien' :()

To administrators:

It seems like only some of the last translation changes in RFTG have been uploaded in the last batch, what is weird...

To Gallardus: has it been fixed now ? If not, can you give me the string(s) that is incorrect?

Thank you again for contributing to this translation.

Hi,

I'm afraid the bug persists. I have identified some of the strings that are not being uploaded properly:

${player_name} plays a ${card_type_name} for ${cost}
${player_name} sells a ${good_name} for ${card_nbr} card(s)
${player_name} uses ${world_name}'s consumption power
Production: ${you} must choose which windfall world produces a good during this phase.
Genes
Novelty goods

There are probably more. A common thing among these is that they all were changed on the morning of 27/1, so I guess none of them were uploaded. it may be a good idea to load all strings with that date in their "last update" field, if such a thing exists :)

Thanks!

Hello Gallardus,

I checked but can't find a bug.

Example:

Original sentence in English:
Production: ${you} must which windfall world is producing

Current translation (30/01) visible on the website:

New translation (30/01) visible only in translation tool because it has been modified today:

Example²:

Original: Novelty goods
Current translation: Productos de Innovación
In the translation module: Productos de Innovación

However, maybe you should refresh your browser cache (CTRL+F5): as it is now there is no automatic cache flushing system for translations. This is probably the reason why you are seeing old strings.

Thank you!
