There's sth frustrating sometimes in BGA elo and prestige, it's how players keep a nice ranking while actually never really playing. You can't defeat them, you can't make them prove their Worth (they'll never accept suggestions), and yet they're here. And when you check some of those players' statistics on the game, you'll find out their playing regularity: it is, oh how about that, every other month, like you'll see "/11", "/01", "/03"... And only with beginners, which gets it safer, especially in some games like hex where beginner who wouldn't know pie rule is very easily dealt with, so that it's like free elo. And if you add to this that there was a general decrease in elo when the new setting arrived (when 100 replaced 1500 as the zero level, and prevented we would go below), which only "actual" players suffered, you'll conclude that elo can be really unfair sometimes (of course I insist on that adverb, elo is still very reliable and efficient, I think).
- I won't give names, but within the top players in BGA, some play very much (even too much perhaps, like they have a job and a family huh), and earn prestige from tournaments, which makes it unquestionnable, some...you find out they're as I suggested in like all of their games. -
So I wonder if it would be possible to reset a bit the BGA programming on that matter. Maybe the better (comparatively in elo) our opponent in games is, the more additionnal time of ranking active we would get.
I think it would be just, fair and meaningful, though maybe it wouldn't change things so much. But that's open to discussion. As for the achievability, I confess I have no idea whether and how easy it would be to settle such a thing, but again, at least the question is asked.
