Some feed back after trying Arena Mode for several games: (The King's Guild, Tokaido, 7 Wonders and The battle for Hill 218, and looked at setting of For Sales, werewolves and Secret Moon)
1. Some game setting are quite bizarre like Werewolve where a lot of people have mentioned. (Personally no expansion, hunter and witch on is my favourite setting) It's better to ask the keen players in that game which setting is the most balanced or well conceived by the players who are playing them. May be create a thread in each game sub forum to discuss/vote it?
as for my 2cent:
For Sales is better in 5 players. In 6 players there are too few turns and in 4 players there are too many turns, with some of the cards removed as well. If you have the statistics 5 players should be the most common option so far.
Thanks for choosing 4 players for Tokaido, although I feel sad for the 2er players. 4 player Tokaido and 2 player Tokaido is two different games. As for 4 players, Gastronomy On and all other option off is the stable setting. (Preparation actually makes the game more unbalanced. the best seat is 2nd and 3rd position. +2 gold for 4th position is way too much, and -1gold for 1st seat make it even weaker. and some characters have advantage in certain seat, for example, hirotada, who has a high win rate, is ok to start as 4th as he can usually get the village for his character bonus for the first move. the +2 gold almost make him auto win) Gastronomy makes the game slightly more strategic as the position near the inn has cleaner line of value difference. (like if you are the last to enter inn you will probably take a 3 coin meal)
For Secret moon 8 players were the most well perceived number. Yes the chancellor team has higher chance to win but that also make the Princess team win much more satisfying.
For King's guild and 7 wonders, the setting is fine. I think for 7 wonders, 4 players is the most strategic personally.
2. For the waiting screen, it doesn't tell much about the room situation, like how many players have already joined? I also want to know how many favourited players are online for each game? I can see if any players are waiting for an arena game in simple game mode, so can I also see that while I am in arena mode?
3. Due to the long wait for now sometimes we do tab out. Can the name of the tab change once a game has started? I have missed one game and I have seen other player missing game as well.
4. Some games are dead due to breakdown of community or losing popularity. Perhaps arena mode is an opportunity to bring them back? For example in each competitive season certain games are promoted and you get extra incentives to achieve high ladder in that season . (May be highlight of the game, reintroducing the game and extra league point for playing the game or something?) That will bring back the community and may be players will come back to the game. (e.g. Legendary Inventors was quite popular when it came out and only playable in 4 players and 5 players . Once 2~3 players are also available the community collapse and it is extremely hard to start a 4 players game now)
Afterall, thanks for creating Arena mode! It creates a competitive environment and possibly a seasonal hype to keep the site interesting. have been waiting for this a really long time. will definitely buy premium and invite friends to join once it's established.
