Yes I totally agree with you . Like for example this big UWS event I make a lot of posts to my team and it seems as everyone gets to see what I am saying letting others plan according or have inside info because what I am saying isn’t private as I think it should be .

I think I am allowed to disagree here ? BGA is a nice community that works with alot of people sure someone has noticed if that was the casefafa-fr wrote: ↑28 April 2020, 18:09I suspect that so-called "private" groups exist on BGA because english is not the mother tongue of BGA admins, and maybe they wanted to create closed groups more than private groups.Caninski_Jen wrote: ↑ why in the first place exist a "private" group here on BGA. Re: Group privacy problem
If you look at the bug reports you can see that this is an old issue. Overall, it hasn't been voted for much, which again would suggest this to be of a low priority, relatively.
This thread should link to a bug report.

Re: Group privacy problem
It might be an old issue but that doesn't mean that we have to shut up our thoughts and mind
Re: Group privacy problem
I really value the ability to choose what information about me can be seen in any online setting, including this one.
Here's a link to some bug reports that can be upvoted by anyone who feels that this should be fixed sooner rather than later.

+1. This is exactly what I was going to add. Despite the major impact it has, it's entirely possible this problem started because of a simple language issue. I highly doubt it was intentionally set up to give only the appearance of privacy or that it hasn't been fixed because of lack of concern. The admins would have to answer that though.fafa-fr wrote: ↑28 April 2020, 18:09I suspect that so-called "private" groups exist on BGA because english is not the mother tongue of BGA admins, and maybe they wanted to create closed groups more than private groups.Caninski_Jen wrote: ↑ why in the first place exist a "private" group here on BGA. I agree with several posts that a simple fix, though incomplete and hopefully temporary, would be to change the name of the groups to 'closed, but publicly visible' or 'members only' or something like that.
Because of the easy risk of abuse, I'm not sure if truly private groups should exist. However, I would default to a position of 'try it and see what happens'. I definitely see the use for discussing group strategy etc privately.
There are several bug reports related to "private group" (note not "groups"), but this one seems to be the most appropriate for this post (not so specific that it leaves out some of the issues raised here):

If this is important to you, give the report your green thumb to upvote it and add details of your own experiences with the issue. Just also consider that they may (and probably do) have even bigger issues to work on first.
Cheers!
EDIT: J-M and I must have been typing at the same time. But my post got a bit wordy and took longer to submit!
EDIT 2: In the 'simple fix' suggestion, I changed my wording from "simple fix for now would be".

Re: Group privacy problem
I agree with everything said so far. Private means private, not visible in certain situations.
Re: Group privacy problem
When participating in "Group" events on BGA, we would want to use a private platform to strategize and plan our line-ups. The lack of privacy in the private groups makes us reliant on external platforms like discord and Google docs, which defeats the purpose of private groups on BGA in the first place.
