1) yes, known issue

2) please use bga bug report system to file a bug, not posting on the forum. It will let us track the progress and prioritize what to fix

Hi All! I'm open to playing some games of Santorini if anyone is interested. Was playing with a friend of mine who's new to the game, but I think I kind of made him hate it by beating him pretty much every time lol

Now the contestant build the powers offer and choose which power is going to start (suggestion is based on the file in the previous link)

I've also added a "competitive" mode (suited for Arena) : Random Fair Division => same as Fair Division but the contestant only pick from a subset of powers (to avoid people just mastering two powers and always picking them).
I just discovered this implementation today, and was very impressed with it! However the "fair division" process caused a lot of confusion for my wife and I, who have played the physical version many times. I read the thread, and it seems like a sensible house rule, but it certainly isn't from the Santorini creator, Gordon Hamilton. I made a suggestion bug to propose it be optional, but was shot down and told that this rule was intended to be part of the base game, which I see no evidence of. In any case, if you think it's worth having this as an option instead of the only way to play, please give a thumbs up to the bug:

As the game is now in beta, it has in own forum now and you might want to post there instead to increase your chance (this topic will likely be closed soon as it is not relevant anymore).

Still, I understand it might be confusing if you have played a lot in the other way but please consider the following :
- the text is clear about the choice you're making (talking about starting to play and not about picking power) so to get confused you would have to be really used to one particular way of playing
- as mlvanbie pointed out on the bgg thread I've already pointed out, the base setup has some flaws that are solved by this fair division setup. Mlvanbie is on the Roxley team that made the game with all the powers, he has made à lot of testing to try to balance things the most (banned matchup, updated rules (not on the official website, you have to go to bgg or official discord server).
- I see absolutely no advantage of the original setup over this one in term of complexity or fairness
- if the two options were implemented, one would still be the default value and since the new one seems more fair, I would put this one as default. In that case, new players will have to understand the difference and change manually to play with the other setup, not sure if it's will be less confusing

In short, this setup might be confusing the first time for some players, but I don't know any player yet who would stick with old setup after played once with this one.
But again, feel free to post in the Santorini forum or even to propose a code patch with this setup (the code is available on the studio), but for the moment I will not work on it until more people ask for it with some good reasons

There are indeed several variations from the physical game, most of which are correcting mistakes in the physical copy of the game to improve balance of the game. At least 12 powers have been changed, too!

Bottom line: Veteran players need to read and pay extra attention

The Wiki "how to play" calls out these variations. Feel free to edit it here to make it more clear: http://en.doc.boardgamearena.com/Gamehelpsantorini
