How is Arena mode competitive?

For ANY game on BGA: You can review the enabled game setting always in-game by a click on top right menu, there you have a section "Game options". Or you scroll below the gameboard and click there on "Options", you find the current game settings there, too.

That doesn't really help. What I don't want is to end playing games I don't want to play... Once in-game is too late.

you can click on the cog wheel to find the settings for the game BEFORE you play the game.

Luckily I can put a restriction to play players that are my level... Let's see how it goes now.

Now you hit the real problems of Arena Mode. You are not the first one to complain about these. Restricting players helps a bit though.

Uff, just carried on playing and it is pretty bad indeed. Even if I configure it saying I only want to play against people that are my level I end playing against people that are not really good... More than half of the games were a bit... meh

How can someone with 200 Elo (or even less) that has only won 40% of the games¹ be in the elite league?

I guess I'll have to go back to simple games where I can face top players in every single game. Quite contradictory that you face better players in the games for relax than in competition games.
