Hello Poddster

Thank you for writing what you have. I recently wrote to BGA regarding the same issue, but have had no response.

This site is one of the best for playing games, however, is spoilt by inconsiderate players.

Players register for games and tournaments and then either deliberately keep opponents waiting for hours, with their clocks going into the red or do not bother to complete their games.

The penalties do not serve as a deterrent and karma has no real purpose, both areas definitely need to be relooked at.

I think that if a player has reached a certain number of penalties in a short space of time, then that player should not be allowed to play any further games for a set period of time. Maybe players then would act more responsible.

Kind Regards

Yes it is crucial to avoid time loss.
But disconnections should not affect the karma.

Can someone please point me to where the information is posted for what time zone the website uses or how restrictions work? It should be in the FAQ no?

Is the restriction displayed in GMT or localized for each player?
Is it based on who created the table?

I searched a bit for it in the forum and this thread keeps coming up. A response here with helpful info could help you out.

Times are always displayed in local time. So if I enter something like 12 moves per day (noon to 6P) for my table setup, and I'm in Albuquerque, NM, USA, (Mountain Standard Time, UCT-7), the table configuration will appear to be 12 moves per day (20:00 - 02:00) to those users in France.

Totally agree with sir, who started this discussion. (Yet I have this problem with both Americans and Europeans)

I like playing 2-3 fast turn-based games at the same time. For the fast turn-based mode for 3-4 players, I expect to make at least 2 moves per day (reasonable expectation for such mode IMO), but instead, there is almost always one or two players who runs out of their time at the beginning of the game, so a given game turns to slow rate or merely ends because this person is kicked off and someone else left afterwards.
It is annoying as hell, especially when you notice that these people play a few dozen games or more than 100 games at the same time!

Moreover it is frequently not newbies. Right now I experiencing this problem with a person played more than1200 games. Is it a newcomer? I guess no. (I had 120)

As I see these people play turn-based games with both ordinary rate mode and fast rate mode turned on. They just give no attention to the rate the games of the latter type should go at. Why would they? The minuscule time penalty will be quickly neutralized because of karma rise from finished ordinary (! not even fast) rate mode games they get each day.

That’s it. This site is great, but it doesn’t really restrict such behavior, and someone have to suffer because of this.

Completely agree.

Not just a time-penalty, but a penalty to not being able to join a table with the same time restrictions for another 4-weeks / month.

Maybe have the default setting for the table reputation to be >75%

But, i having one problem whit rallyman gt to (real time) when you need 20 seconds before kicking the player, the player could literally do move one dice and reset the timer to 20 seconds, since it’s detected as a move, sometime for me, negatives should not be able to stop they the time before banning them out until they are done.

Btw, i mostly never play tournament.

This is a bug with the game then. The developer is using the function giveExtraTime too early, and should only be used at the end of a players turn, the same time as the game transitions state, something like:

Code: Select all

self::giveExtraTime( $player_id );
$this->gamestate->nextState( 'nextPlayer' );

That's not enough. When out of time and clicking «kick», the player still have a few seconds to make a move that cancel the kick, even if the time is negative.
A player can thus troll other players all long as he can do an infinite number of actions, even if he has negative time. That already happened couple times in Kingdom Builder

This is exactly what I'm talking about.
