Conceed feature

Post by Wicksweff »

When you agree to a game, you should be agreeing to play it to completion.
The Conceed feature should be changed into an Offer to Conceed, that can be accepted or rejected by the other player(s).
The current unilateral conceed option assumes that determining a winner is the only reason to play, but some people play for fun.

So, you should be able to force a player to waste their time in a game that they are not having fun in, rather than allow both parties to join new games that are fun?

No, they signed up for it when they clicked Accept, so you're not forcing them to do anything.

How would you play in person with friends?
If you had a friend who quit playing every game as soon as he figured he coudldn't win, you'd stop inviting him.
It's the equivalent of flipping the board.

I wanted to write something very similar as Jest - if you have fun crashing your opponent into the ground in a game you obviously won already, he must have fun with being crushed too, otherwise he violates whatever you think he agreed to when accepting to start a game vs you.

Also, if you look for earlier threads about this topic you‘ll see that this was discussed before, and that there are other views on the topic than yours.

And the equivalent to your reaction in real live is present here: give him a private red thumb, then he‘ll never join a table of you ever again.

I can definitely see this point.

But playing on BGA is not (no matter how much they claim to make it) exactly like playing in the physical world. I often don't play with friends, but with random people who were looking for a game the moment I was looking for one. In the physical world I am much more likely to get acknowledgement that I exist in the form of at least a response to me saying, "Hello, have fun." Not so much here.

Then, this will cause havoc for the people that do specifically want to play only for rank. Being forced to play when there is no change in the final result will cause problems. While arena mode was supposed to separate the people playing for rank from the people who are playing for other reasons, I'm unsure if it is wise (or even technically feasible) to change the concede function to check if the game is for arena points or not.

For more thoughts, you might check this thread (https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... =3&t=18008) that was active recently.
