Have you considered that anyone that installs a custom CSS page is "probably" a bit more likely to blame something else rather than their custom CSS?

The first step in tracking down a bug on a website is to make sure it affects all users of the website. There was a recent forum thread about how the sound suddenly wasn't working and the poster was wondering what BGA did. They then came back and stated that it was their ad blocker that was causing the problem. Custom CSS must be treated as a similar situation: first verify that it is something that affects all users, not just the user of the custom CSS. The easiest way to do this is to force the user to disable custom CSS to verify the bug still happens.

If you still feel that, as a custom CSS user, you are better at programming and finding and squashing bugs, there are bounties available in the Developer's forum. Try fixing the problems rather than just complaining.

It's really a strange blocking.

https://boardgamearena.com/?use_custom_style=0 isn't working as well btw.

As a developer I would like to know if a user is using a custom CSS, so just add this automatically to the bug report.

Otherwise the player needs to go to Advanced settings, copy the CSS somewhere outside of BGA, report the bug, probably not mentioning the use of a custom CSS and then switching back to the custom CSS by copying it from the place outside of BGA.

Regarding the confirmation of a suggestion or a bug it would be great to have "power users" or "testers" reproduce the bug, so that developers don't need to do this.

So, if I find a Bug, because I am using custom CSS, I should not report the Bug? Is that what you are saying?

Or should I do, like I was doing up until now, just removing the custom CSS, report the Bug and paste again the custom CSS?

My opinion is just that, having that restriction on the Bug reporting page not being available is not doing much, in my case... just making me have to cut->save->post the bug->paste the CSS... and back to playing games!

I am in no way saying you should not report the bug. What I am saying is that you should try to reproduce the bug without the custom CSS in place before reporting it. That way BGA will be tracking down a bug on their server, not trying to fix something on your browser that they have no control over.

What happens is I just don't submit the bug 99% of the time. Cause I'm lazy enough that I don't want to go into preferences, go to custom or advanced or whatever it is, copy my code somewhere, save it, then go back to the bug forum to submit or interact with bug tickets. Then I have to go back to the CSS updates page and then paste it back in and save it again. I'm betting BGA loses most non-game stopping bug reports from people with custom CSS. It's just a hassle.

It is even better (or worse, depending on the POV).

With custom CSS you can´t even vote on the BGA suggestions, nothing to do with CSS...

Oh, don't get me wrong I am not implying we absolve those with custom CSS of the responsibility here; but I refer to examples where a table ID is provided and a game logic bug highlighted -- non-visual bugs which will happen regardless of CSS should be able to be submitted regardless.

Additionally the idea in my suggestion is that someone with custom CSS can view and even make a bug report -- but if they make a report their post gets "stamped" with a message stating custom CSS was active. What I mean by "first avenue of investigation" is assessing if the reported issue can exist regardless of custom CSS (i.e. Game logic).

Alternatively if it is a visual bug beign reported, the dev, at their discretion could make a very quick pass could be made to check it -- I'm talking super easy here, only relevant to some bug reports. e.g. If I've submitted a bug report with a table ID stating on turn X a token that's supposed to be aligned with something else is rendered several cm on screen away, the dev could click that, take a look into the table and very quickly see if it's the case for them -- if that were it is then it's proven to not be my custom CSS, and that message of custom CSS means nothing.

Should it be something that could have been the custom CSS, though, and the one of the following could occur to follow-up this message:
  • OP adds a note that custom CSS was disabled and issue persists.
  • Someone else could chime in and validate the same bug without custom CSS.
  • Dev declines the bug report until it's disproved to be custom CSS -- "Hey, Dislexsick, I can see you have custom CSS turned on, this one could be a result of that -- can you check this still happens with that disabled please?"
The last one doesn't preclude in the intervening time someone else commenting it happens for them without custom CSS...

In all cases though everyone now has more information -- the (possible) bug is in the system, others can look at it and discuss it; and this saves us from something I suspect (but nobody can really prove) which is that some bug reports aren't being submitted because it's too much effort to remove the custom CSS to make them.
