I agree with this entirely. I can't even finish a game without someone wanting to abandon it as soon as the shuffle looks bleak or someone makes a mistake. Anyone with an amazing ELO at Hanabi is a serial quitter.

And some have had the nerve to downvote me if I *won't* abandon the game! It's a poison to the format.

I just played a few 2-person games with someone; all was going smoothly until we arrived at a point where 28 would be the best outcome. They demanded I cancel, and when I declined, pointed out that they were the premium user and if I wouldn't abandon they wouldn't play again. Granted, rather a counterproductive 'threat' in this instance, since I'd rather not play at all than play with a quitter, but still a pretty shabby way to behave.

Yeah, this happens very often in 2-player. It is so ingrained in peoples heads that the abandon happens 1 second after they make a mistake. Discarding a 5? Double discarding something? Instantly you get abandon request. It's like a part of the game for them already. Instead of trying to become a better player they try to find easier decks to play. I intentionally do not allow abandon for these kinds of people. Sometimes they play to the end (taking a smaller elo loss), sometimes they get angry and intentionally bomb the game. I have so many people in my thumbs-down list due to that now. Most of them don't play for long, though.

I give red thumbs to serial quitters, although I do agree to abandon myself sometimes (mostly if an honest mistake occurred). My Elo happens to be around 1070 right now but that's because I've played a lot of bright 600s recently (and I only play 2p). More typically it tends to hover in the 930-990 range. But I do agree that there are way more good players in the 700-900 range than above 900.

Has a suggestion been opened yet to display what percentage of games is finished by a player?

Yes, this is an excellent idea! I used to write in the table description "No abandoners please" but no one would see it. It would be great to have it displayed somehow

I don't think that's something the Hanabi devs can do. This should be a site-wide suggestion (for all games) implemented by the BGA devs, or it will never happen.

Quitting is a fail in a co-op game.

In a multiplayer game, one person can force you to either play or take not only a full loss, but also a rep penalty (by "quit game"), because they are your opponent.

In a co-op game, the game is your opponent, and it never gives up, so it never agrees to let you go. You have to play or if you quit, you get not only a full loss, but also an increasing rep penalty as is normal practice for qutting a game against an opponent.

It must be that way. Otherwise any "score" is a joke - and it is currently exactly that.

The only way abandoning will be reduced is if the scoring was a true reflection of how you do.

The rules of the game call anything over 20 a win, but the ELO system decreases you score for anything less than a perfect 25.

Currently even playing with black powder and multitude of colours a 'perfect' victory (35) will score just +1 ELO but a hard fought 34 will cause you to lose 12. It's quite disheartening. The only way to stop you giving up when you can no longer achieve perfection is to fix this so that all 'wins' count.
