Bold of you to assume they are paid.
I'm not sure BGA disclose how many of their 10 moderators are paid full time moderators, if any at all (after all, most of the work on BGA is made by volunteers).

But if you look here (https://boardgamearena.com/moderator), you can see that when you volunteer to be a moderator, you only pledge to act as a moderator 10 minutes per week. Needless to say that not a lot is done in 10 minutes.

As we already stated, penalties are also up to your previous moderation history.
The moderators have a supervisor that is checking pretty much everything.
You can ask for a double check of your moderation, but in most cases, the penalty is justified.
When moderated, do not look at other users accounts- look at your own, because every moderation is done for each specific user depending on their own history.

Once again, you have the email address and contact form to reach out to us. These issues have no place in the forums as they are mostly based on users behavior, and their privacy should be maintained.

Appeals are checked with your profile history: we don't answer appeals when they are not submitted respectfully (i.e : if they contain bad words, insults, etc).
Too many users try to argue over what is an insult or not, what's good or not, and this leads us to never-ending email exchanges.
We can't handle these as it is usually unjustified, or mostly trolls.
But when we are wrong, because yeah, it can happen (read too fast, clicked the wrong button), we are willing to adjust the moderation.
Moderators are volunteers, they are checked by our moderation staff and validated by our CM.
Most difficult cases are discussed about internally with the moderation team, and goes up to the admins whenever it's needed.

On a daily basis, 98% of the moderation appeals are coming from users who were acting badly, complaining about moderation for no good reason, or to mess with the moderators team.

Also, we are getting stronger skills concerning insults, even when written in different languages or slang.
As long as there are no bad words written on anything we are moderating, we will try to solve the issue.
Whenever you write insults or bad words, expect a strong moderation.
We have kids here. And we care.

Interesting I got moderated for cheating, everyone in my post agree with me that I did not, but no moderator ever come to my post, give all the excuses like in this one, maybe my case was to difficult for the moderators to defend themselves lol.
I think you need a jury, as someone mentioned, your moderators are volunteers, I have doubt you can control the results to be fair, since different people have different opinions, especially for random volunteers without professional trainings.

I am not trying to be mean or challenge your credibility, but after checking your records, your gaming winning rate looks way below 50%. I really do not trust your judgement, based on that history.

A lot of it goes to game publishers. The membership system exists so that game publishers don't remove their games from the platform.
Some money from membership is split between game publishers of premium games depending on how popular their games on the platform are.

Are the management volunteers as well?

Does this mean the reason those premium games cost money for membership is because all of their publishers asked for a share?

Yes. Premium is exclusively the choice of the publishers. The publishers are given 3 choices:
(1) Forbid their game from being on the platform
(2) Have their game for free on the platform
(3) Have their game (or just the expansion) premium, and earn a share of the premium cost

Once the publisher agreed to the game being on BGA, (2) is the default, and the game is free up until the publisher ask for a share.
[Which recently happened to Can't Stop and Tokaido, for example. They used to be free but the publishers recently asked for their share of the premium subscription, so they are now premium]
