Saying GG too early - sportsmanship/etiquette

I've played hundreds of games here.
some players say an early gg when they know they have lost.
some players say an early gg when they know they have won and I don't like that as I consider this as boasting.

So typing 2 letters, then pressing ENTER, kind of... takes a bit more time than 2 lousy mouse clicks (or touchpad clicks).

You also have to open the chat to send the message, which requires moving your mouse to the bottom, and then clicking. which is a third click . While you can just open the chat by typing on bga. Also, I find moving from a key-to-key on the keyboard faster than moving the mouse. But I guess it depends from a person-to-person. We can agree that it is mostly a small difference, lol.

Yes, I think that'd be ideal. But, not everyone shares the same idea of what "gg" is supposed to mean. So, I mostly say gg in only these scenarios:

(1) I won, and opponent says gg.
(2) close/interesting game.
(3) I lost, and I have time to say gg.

I am really trying to see how "thank you for the game" is not neutral and how it can be worse than "gg"... You are basically thanking the player(s) for playing with you, out of their time.

If you say "gg" when you feel the game was good, and say "Thanks for the game" otherwise. Then, when you say "Thanks for the game", it gives the impression that you've judged the game to not be worthy of a "gg". At least, it just might be me overthinking it.

Edit: Uh, I guess that doesn't cover the case where you'd just say "Thanks for the game" all the time. That could possibly work I guess.

Yes, that was... the idea.
Or I comment on certain games (more organic), or I simply don't say anything (not getting in chats at all - unless otherwise needed - has its benefits).

Also, if for instance, there is cheating or kingmaking involved... Of course I don't say "Thank you for the game" (there are a lot of people who simply... say "thanks" or "gg" or whatever... to ANY KIND OF CHEATING/KINGMAKING FROM OTHERS).
I ask the people what happened, in order to understand. And if... no feedback, I criticise the kingmaking, and/or perhaps leave a review for the game, about the kingmaking, and/or red thumb the player(s) involved.
But this is... a particular situation where a player either intentionally kingmakes, or ruins a game unintentionally...
I don't know if you have noticed... But I think lately... there are more people than usual, who... play while >H2O. :s

I did not include the click (mouse click, finger click, etc.) on the BGA chat tab, because how i see it, it is needed in both situations:

1. for the GG: click on the BGA table game chat tab (lower right of the screen, everyone knows i think, where it is), then write the 2 letters, then click/press on enter to send;
2. for the auto-messages: click the chat tab, then click the smiley icon (all auto messages appear), then select one of them and that is all (no enter needed).

As I see it, i even compared the timing, nr. 2 takes less time (we are talking about milliseconds, or seconds at most, here).

Assuming PC, you can just type "GG" (typing anything open the chat automatically) then press "Enter", and you didn't have to touch your mouse at all.
[Though admittedly, you can't play BGA with only you keyboard, so using your mouse should not be that big of a deal].

Question... Why don't you say: "Thanks for playing", "Thank you for the game", "Thanks", "TNX" or "Good day" (at the end of the game)?

Lots of people do. I tend to use 'thanks for the game and 'well played' (depending on who won). I find it completely bizarre that people are so sensitive to when/how 'gg' or other stock phrases are used. Did your parents not bring you up to say 'please' and 'thankyou'? This is literally the exact same set of social conventions in operation.

I say GG when the winner is determined. One of the main reasons I use GG is because everyone understands what gg means while some other phrase is more complicated. I'm not going to fool with clicking on something and prefer to type to others

Where possible, I try to say gg when the game is close to being decided but the winner is still up for grabs. If I miss that window I tend to wait for the end of the game to avoid it looking like a boast, but you can never be sure how text is received as it never carries any tonal info.

I don't think there is a good answer for this - don't say it and be thought of as rude? Say it and be thought of as conceited? Especially when compounded by issues of different ideas of etiquette in different communities... I think you can only engage with it honestly and hope that the opponents take it in the right spirit

Let's not overcomplicate things. "gg" means "Good game". Just that.
Nothing wrong saying "gg" if you honestly had or are having a good game.
