People are being passive agressive and know how to harass others without recieving any penalties. At this point is a form of art. People provoke others on purpose and report for the smallest thing. Hell, you can say hi and get reported for saying hi in the wrong way. And you will still get penalitized if the user who reported you is high enough standing and yours is low enough.

Re: Moderators has different standards
Thank you, these links were very helpful. Especially the Moderationpolicy. BUT what confuses me is that it starts with:KongKing123 wrote: ↑17 August 2021, 16:14 It does, unless you're somehow expecting an exhaustive list of all insulting terms:
"
Moderationpolicy
This page comes from BGA wiki, and has been written by BGA players community. Feel free to edit it!
"
So is it officially what Moderators apply (should apply) or not?
Check out the Allround-League: https://boardgamearena.com/group?id=7870115 --> a league where you have matches of random games vs. other players in your group. Season 9 registration oct. '25.

Well you can't edit it, so it was not written by players, and it was last updated two weeks ago: https://en.doc.boardgamearena.com/Moderationpolicy. It also seems in line with the punishments that I've come across or have been mentioned.
So I would guess that it's official, but I don't know for sure.

A few thoughts on all of this:
Beyond Reasonable Doubt
If there is any possible doubt, a player should be considered not guilty.
There have been quite a few cases, where there was a reasonable doubt (reasonable, to say the least), and all was ignored.
Appeal
Players have the right to appeal the moderation decision by forwarding received moderation email to "contact+appeal@boardgamearena.com".
They MUST explain in the email how the moderator failed to follow the BGA Moderation Policy. If the explanation is not convincing, the email will be ignored. If the player is obviously guilty and if the Moderation Policy has been followed, BGA admins will give a more severe penalty than the initial.
People complain on the forum that no link, no e-mail, no appeal is available, on the "I UNDERSTAND AND ACCEPT" page, when the moderation kicks in.
I consider the appeal procedure too complicated and shady at the same time, and even the players who manage to do it well, no appeal was ever successful or followed by feedback (correct me if i am wrong).
And from what I have heard (from a few sources), the same moderator who moderated you, takes care of the appeal.
Player Profile Influence
The player's profile IS taken into account when determining if a player is guilty or not guilty. Moderators give more credit to players with a good profile than those in poor standing.
The player's profile is NOT taken into account when choosing the penalty if the player is found guilty.
Good profile elements are:
A good thumb up / thumb down ratio.
Player is registered for a long time / has a lot of games played.
Players is involved in the website (ex: validated translations).
Player is supporting BGA (Premium member).
You should also take into account the profile of the reporting player (report author): a bad reputation and/or an important number of reports already judged as "not guilty" should incite you to be very careful with this players report.
Sorry but... this looks to me like Premium players have less chance than non-Premium ones, to be considered guilty, for identical reports or situations... Which is the idea i expressed in MisterTab's last post on the forum: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... =3&t=21953.
How is this fair? Especially since one of the moderators clearly said, once... "If you don't act nicely, you get penalties. Free or Premium." (https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 2&start=30)
And also... the avatars. I find it funny that some people get moderated for what is considered "unacceptable avatar", when the avatars the site offers, when selecting a profile pic... a bunch of them are... not quite ok, from my point of view (skeletons, skulls, eyes dropping, nudity and so on).
I heard there was even a case where someone was reported for an avatar (an avatar selected from the ones the site offers), and the report was finalised with a moderation. I mean... really?
I am not criticising the site, i think it's great. I just felt these things were illogical, and wrote them for debate.
Have a nice day.

Re: Moderators has different standards
In this post, the player was clearly unfairly moderated, had no success in appealing the moderation for a week. Eventually the moderator did fix it but still kind of blamed the victim for putting the issue on forum rather than the official appeal channel, which is really unfair for the player because they wouldn't have posted on forum in the first place if the moderation was correct or if there were no problems with the appeal procedure.Ze Monstah wrote: ↑19 August 2021, 02:00 People complain on the forum that no link, no e-mail, no appeal is available, on the "I UNDERSTAND AND ACCEPT" page, when the moderation kicks in.

While one way I understand your reaction, in another way a paying member can be considered a more dedicated member. Someone who invests money wouldn't be(or should not) use his account as some throwaway account, and infractions could happen unintentionally.Ze Monstah wrote: ↑19 August 2021, 02:00 Player is supporting BGA (Premium member).

Someone who is a standard member could consider to start trolling. And if he gets banned, he just makes a new account.
Ofcourse it may make no real significant difference in judgement, quite often premium members are also members for a longer duration of time, so that rules in their favor.

There are a lot of Premium players who delete accounts and create others, players who were Premium for a long time before going back to basics (like me), Premium players who swear left and right, Basic (Free) players who are decent and have the account since 2011, and so on.
What seems odd to me, is that things are said in some circumstances, rules are set in some circumstances, things/rules which are overruled or ignored in other situations, depending on the player or the situation (ex. an administrator saying Premium and Basic users are considered the same, from the report/moderation point of view - link above, while the moderation page says Premium players have an advantage when moderation decisions come; and so on...).
In many cases these things seem rather unfair.

Re: Moderators has different standards
Sorry, that was rude. I mean that's literrally the third post with almost same title and almost same content in a week that have no consequences. So yeah I am a bit tired about this thematic. However I understand some players want to talk/rant about that, that's why a subforum would be nice so that "discussions" subforum would no longer poluted by these kind of post that usually are quite far from a "discussion".
