It is 10 points for a first offense, 20 for multiple offenses. And yes it is justified. At 5:1 you could not show up to 17% of your games and keep 100% karma. If everyone was doing that, games with 4 or more players would have less than a 50% chance of actually happening and that is a huge waste of time. If you are in the queue pay attention, or at least don't play arena where games start automatically, play in normal mode.

Re: -20 points
or just stop playing. I am not ok with the philosophy.
Re: -20 points
Its interesting that no one suggest I just stop using the system. Because thats were I am at. If the community thinkgs -20 is ok, I am not in line with the community.
Silene wrote: ↑25 October 2021, 15:48 You don't have to play Arena as that seems to create problems for you. If you play normal game, the game cannot start in your absence. You'd always have to click an accept button right before the game starts, so you can't miss it / forget about it.
Or is automatch the issue here? But i thought on that you'd also get the appept-prompt on that as well. Just don't play arena!
Re: -20 points
multiple responses here suggested you stop using real-time-arena-system. so what's your point?

You yourself have already suggested this:
Unless, of course, you believe you are "no one." But if you believe you are no one, who are we to believe that you are important enough to keep in our community? If you are not no one, than someone (you yourself) has suggested you stop using the system.

Re: -20 points
I have gotten the -20 karma penalty, and it is completely fair. My poor planning / short attention span negatively affected the experience of others and there should be a penalty for it. And it should be a penalty that matters so that we are disincentivized from continuing to do it.TheBigR wrote: ↑25 October 2021, 14:06 So I have been getting hit with the -20 karma points a lot reciently and I admit it is basicly my fault, BUT when you start a game and it takes 4-5 minutes to start, it is easy to forget you started the game.
It is time to rethink this policy. -20 points just drives you down to zero zome times.
It sounds like you want a penalty that is small enough that it doesn't matter to you. The whole point is that it needs to matter to you so that you alter your behavior.

Yes, Big Red, they are kind of right.
If you go Arena in a not-so-popular game... simply make an effort to wait; or stay nearby, in case the game starts, hoping there will be a sound notification.
And even if you are expelled... playing 20 fast games will get you back to 100 Karma.
80% is not the end of the world...
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
My issues with expellings are:
• Arena: sometimes... the sound notification does not come...
I was once watching YouTube in another tab, on laptop, expecting that the sound will happen once the Arena game starts (the tab was next to the YT one); but nada...
Next, I found myself expelled; but in that case, it was not my fault.
• Simple games: (I THINK THAT FROM THE TIME THE SYSTEM GOT UPDATED) A lot of people after pressing ACCEPT, are not getting into the game page without refrehing.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
A lot of people experience game-start bugs (especially new people on the site), and as a result, they get expelled.
I used to send them the link of the game in PM or in the game chat (to click it and then press the red button GO TO GAME) and tell them to learn to refresh a game page, when/if they feel something weird is happening; but it doesn't always work.
I wish there was something constructively done about these bugs, because they are a lot, frequent, problematic and hopefully solvable.

Re: -20 points
You allowed yourself to get distracted, and to rely on a single point of failure, "a sound". Who says the sound didn't play, but at that moment some stupid YouTube add thwarted the sound by giving you annoying musing?Ze Monstah wrote: ↑27 October 2021, 01:48 My issues with expellings are:

Who says? I say that the sound sometimes doesn't come... which can be a source of expellings for people who are used to the sound always coming (until it doesn't).
I allowed myself to get distracted? Please...
I could have been reading on another tab, instead of YouTube; same result...
I would have been distracted if i had put my Laptop sound on mute, or if I had forgotten about the game, yeah.
When someone is used to always getting a sound notification when an Arena game starts... I think reading a tab next to the BGA one, on laptop Chrome, while waiting for the sound... is not "letting yourself go".
It's an annoying bug on a good site; 'don't understand why you make all bugs seem like Disneyland.
And I am not the only one dealing with Bugs: Arena or Simple Games.
In order to not risk in Arena, you have to be with the eyes on the game table, non-stop, in case the Sound doesn't come.
I don't get why you are now trying to... defend the bugs on the site.
Really?

Re: -20 points
Some of us on this site maintain a perfect record of not dropping out of any games despite playing hundreds of times.
If these bugs are so persistent and cause so many issues, how is this possible?
Oh wait, it's because I simply pay attention to the tables I queue for and join and am not distracted by other things.
The complainers are ridiculous in here in my opinion. Yes I want the site to function even better, yes we should fix some bugs when able, but it's honestly so absurdly easy to avoid getting leave penalties if you just check the dang tab every couple minutes, or bring it forward and don't multitask, etc, etc.
The original poster I think is the craziest still though, changing the penalties to be less strict is a terrible idea, as explained by Sprockitz. It doesn't seem we'll get anywhere though since they just want to complain about it being too strict and they are dismayed no one else is agreeing despite the fact good explanations were given as to the other side. (I'll repeat though that it's pretty easy to not drop out of games and if you reduce the penalties you will make the behavior more common, which continues to risk even more games failing to get played, etc)
