Conceding a game with grace.... a lost art?

I prefer when they concede since the outcome of the game is often obvious at that point, and having to carry it out when you know what will happen gets a bit annoying. If they say anything that's a nice bonus but it shouldn't be expected. Keep in mind your opponent often doesn't speak the same language as you and thus won't be very talkative.

In some online games, people simply write "gg" (good game) when it's over. It's a nice convention but Tafffy makes a good point that many people might not speak the same language. In general, though, it would be nice for players to learn a "gg" convention. Perhaps BGA could add a "thank you" and/or "good game" button that would work in the person's local language and be a polite way of saying bye to everyone in a game.

In fact, this feature already exists. In the chat box, if you click on the meeple, you will get a list of predefined messages. These messages are automatically translated in each person's local language.

Um. Just no. What if someone is conceding from an unpleasant game? For instance if the opponent were using hacks. That's the very definition of not a good game.

Some people prefer to play the game to the end, others prefer to concede. Usually it makes hardly any difference. In addition to just wanting to save time a conceding player may see they have no move that advances their position. A player who wants to play it out despite seeing they are going to lose may want to see what is the best position / highest score they can get to. At one point my all time high score in a game was a game which I lost. It is also possible that a player is playing out the full game because they haven't seen that they cannot win from their position.

I think a simple "gg" in the chat helps, whereas comments like "you should have conceded" are detrimental.

The only thing that annoys me about conceding at the last moment is that by not properly finishing the game, you don't get the informative and maybe helpful final stats. This doesn't matter if the concession is early in the game, but say 1 turn from the end, its a bit frustrating. Especially if you were looking forward to analysing them, which I often do!
