Classic army gives only 5 since he doesn't have the Age 2 requirements
It's ok if all units are (maximally) one level below the age of the tactic, so he had the full 9 for classic army. There is no bug in the game wrt strength calculation.

Yes, it's different from the advanced game. Sometimes, impact cards also score directly in Age III (depends on how fast the events deck is cycled through); if they turn up, they are scored immediately, not at the end of the game.

No, they are added to the future events deck via political actions (unlike in the Advanced Game), and are hidden, just like all other cards in the event decks.

You only know for sure when you play an impact card yourself.

Especially in Turn-based mode, battles tend to take a long time (unless both players are online at the same time). To speed things up, the decision whether to retreat could be combined with the following moves, in the following manner: Player A: Attack 'conditionally' (cards not revealed to Player B...
